Jazz is one of dance’s most popular styles. Classes combine an aerobic and stretch warm up, followed by centre and corner work technique and movement progressions.

Students will learn co-ordination, balance, kinaesthetic awareness and well as develop their confidence. Jazz class is lots of fun where students learn kicks, turns, jumps, leaps as well as body isolations and movement combinations.

Stratosphere Performing Arts teachers aim to create lessons full of energy and variety where students learn both modern and traditional jazz techniques and styles.

The studio as offers B.A.L. Jazz Syllabus class work for students who wish to refine their Jazz technique. Please see below class description for more information.

Tap is one of our energetic (and noisy!) classes on our timetable. Students are taught leg/foot coordination to execute beats performed to various types of music.

Special attention is given to teaching students timing, rhythm and syncopation.

Stratosphere Performing Arts aims to give our students a well rounded tuition in both traditional and modern styles of tap dancing.

The studio uses Tap & Beats and B.A.L. Tap Syllabi for their class work.

Classical ballet is one of Stratosphere Performing Arts most structured classes. Students will learn and follow the B.A.L. syllabus focusing on learning and perfect correct ballet technique, movement progression and body alignment.

Ballet is the foundation of all dance work and is perhaps the most important class for any aspiring performer. Students focus on movements including adage, allegro, balance, turns as well as body awareness, strength and flexibility.

Stratosphere Performing Arts offers an Open Ballet class for Pre Seniors / senior students. This class will not follow the formal ballet structure as set for young dancers who require the early discipline of a traditional ballet class. Open Ballet instead borrows exercises and movements from all Grades and Disciplines of Ballet dance.

Stratosphere Performing Arts offers Ballet to all ages, Beginners-Senior Major Exams. Please see the timetable for class times.

Contemporary dance is an eclectic movement expression which borrows from ballet, jazz, lyrical and modern dance. Students are taught to dance with intent and purpose, engaging with the style and meaning of both class work in performance.

Contemporary dance develops young students performance maturity and exposes them to movements which are unique to this dance style. The discipline of contemporary dance is taught wide and varied. At Stratosphere Performing Arts teachers focus on teaching self-expression, awareness of space and body movement, use of body weight, technique, jumps, tumbles, floor work and progressive movement.

Contemporary class is offered to students aged 8years and above (Intermediate to Open Age Divisions). Please see class timetable for detailed class times.

Hip Hop

The style itself is a fusion of jazz, street and break dance movement focusing on body conditioning, movement progressions, isolations, freezes/balances, body fluidity and endurance. Classes start with a comprehensive warm-up and gradually build up to more elaborate dance routines.

Hip Hop class is offered to students aged 8years and above (Intermediate to Open Age Divisions). Please see class timetable for detailed class times.

Stratosphere Performing Arts regularly hosts industry performers and choreographers to guest our classes to inspire and expose our students to different hip hop styles.

Acrobatics is a form of gymnastics that focuses on floor skills. It involves individual, partner and group work combined with aerial and rotational elements. Stratosphere Performing Arts provides the opportunity for its students to earn both basic and advanced acrobatics that can be incorporated into dance routines to impress judges and wow audiences.

Students are instructed n the fundamental movement skills of gymnastics including key body positions, Jumps, leaps, rolls, handstands, cartwheels, walk over’s etc. Correct technique is the main focus sin these skills as they form the basis for more advanced acrobatics, partner and group work including pyramids, partner balances and cartwheels, round offs, back flips, handsprings, aerials and somersaults.

Our acrobatics classes are open age however they are graded (Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced) to cater for all abilities and skill levels.

Cheerleading is a fun new style that incorporates elements of both dance and gymnastics. During these classes students will learn stunting, motions, tumbling and tumbling rows as well as Dance with Poms.

Cheerleading helps to develop good focus, physical and mental strength as well as learning to work and supporting your teams mates which creates great bonds and friendships.

Our cheerleading class is taught by accredited teachers and is open to all ages, catering for students from beginners to advanced.
